Demo rom available for testing!
Though it has taken me longer than expected, the Solace Void demo rom is now available for testing during it's final stages of polishing. There have been significant changes made to backgrounds, menus, animations, saving, and overall polish/feel of the demo since my last dev log.
I'm still ironing out some minor changes to decrease slowdown and optimize assets, but this is a great representation of the of the final product.
I appreciate any feedback from people that are able to test the rom on various emulators and hardware. so far I have tested the rom with the "sameboy" emulator and on my miyoo mini plus through retroarch with great results. I have not been able to test on actual game boy color hardware, but am very curious to hear the results ( I don't have an Everdrive cart).
Thanks to everyone that has shown interest in Solace Void. I think I have something special here, and the support keeps me motivated to continue working hard on the project. I don't know when I'll have the entire game finished, but I work on it daily. the foundation built in the demo will used throughout the entire game in terms of mechanics and structure. In theory this should make building the rest of the game much faster than building the demo.

Awesome to see an update. Had a chance to play through until the second boss-like entity (at which I died and so need to play some more :D). Looking good and playing well.
Can try to check on an actual GBC later - is that just to check actual hardware for issues or something like how it looks on OEM screens? SameBoy is very accurate btw, so if you’re using that and not seeing issues (and not doing anything super quirky outside normal GBStudio things) then you’re most likely solid on hardware.
Edit: It would be nice to be able to skip the intro on replays. Looks good and plays well on a GBA SP. Everything is a little small on those old screens but all still recognizable and playable.
Thanks for testing things out! I agree there needs to be some kind of option to skip the intro. It gets old when replaying. Those are the little suggestions I'm looking for to improve the experience.
Thanks for testing on some Nintendo hardware, and your insight on emulation. I expected things to be a little small, but I'm glad to hear everything is functioning properly. I was mainly concerned about the colors and contrast looking bad on original hardware. I've had to tweak the colors alot since they look different when running on emulators outside gbstudio.
I'll be updating the rom again soon, as I added more enemies and polished animations some more over the holiday.
I appreciate the feedback!
Here’s pix on a original GBC with unmodded screen under ideal lighting conditions. Sunlight can be bit trickier to get full lighting without glare, but people who are playing that way would be used to that.
Hey looks great on the original screen! Appreciate you posting that.
